Born in the late 1950's, Gibson's ES series became an instant icon by bringing the feel of an archtop to players who had wholly embraced solid body classics like the Les Paul. The first in the ES lineup was the ES-335 and players unanimously loved it. For many players however, its body was still slightly too big. The ES-339 PRO is the perfect solution, featuring body dimensions that are smaller while still retaining the bell-like tones of all ES series guitars as well as the classic shape. When pushed right these humbuckers can sound thicker than a Les Paul. What they lacked was the ability to add shine and shimmer to arpeggios or to get authentic chicken-pickin' pluck. Epiphone addressed this by adding coil-tapping capabilities to this guitar. Pulling up on either of the volume pots puts the corresponding pickup into single-coil mode. This is a great used Epi and a great addition to anyone's collection looking to add hollowbody.
