The CE has been one of PRS's most hotly debated guitars since 1988 — it built a loyal following, went in and out of production over the decades, and never stopped being the guitar that bolt-on believers pointed to when they needed to win a room.

PRS made 1,000 of these for the 40th Anniversary and closed the book. Full-gloss nitro on the body, satin on the neck — the same finish PRS keeps for Private Stock and charges accordingly for. The Core doesn't get this finish. The SE gets a pocket protector and a name tag next to this thing.

Pull the tone knob, and this thing shifts — leaner, sharper, with a bite a full humbucker can't touch. Leave it down, and you get warmth, clarity, and a low end that stays organized no matter how hard you dig. Back off the volume, and it cleans up like it was raised right. Six voices total, and every one of them is useful. That last part isn't always true. It's true here.
