Gibson Kalamazoo KTG Tenor guitar ('30s)

We are stoked to have a classic piece of history in the shop. You may have heard of Epiphone as Gibson’s budget brand of guitars, but before Gibson bought out this competitor, the brand produced budget brand guitars under the moniker of “Kalamazoo.” From 1933 to 1942, Gibson produced archtop and flattop acoustic guitars, lap steels, banjos, and mandolins under the Kalamazoo name.

This T-50 came to us in good condition, and a quick setup later, it plays like it just came out of the factory. The neck is Honduran mahogany with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, with a medium V neck profile.

Frets, tuning machines, bridge, trapeze tailpiece and pickguard are all original. Frets have visible wear, but still plays well enough that a re-fret won't be necessary until the guitar is played much more.

The body of this guitar boasts a solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides.

This guitar has two cracks on the top that have been there a while, so the top is relatively stable. Tuning machines are original, and 1:1. All other damage on this guitar is easily viewed in the photos. Nothing wildly out of the ordinary on this guitar.

The best feature of this fantastic little tenor is its sound! Almost 100 years have left this guitar opened up and has a sparkle on the high end with a  punchy midrange. You need to hear this one for yourself!
